On Thursday, September 29, Imagine! SmartHomes project manager Sterling Wind worked at a SmartHomes information booth during the 2011 IBM Employee Extravaganza. IBM has been a supporter of Imagine! and our SmartHomes in the past, and this was great opportunity for us to meet face-to-face with IBM employees and show them how technology is changing the lives of some of our most vulnerable citizens.

Greg presented, along with Mark Davis, President of the Ohio Provider Resource Association, on Remote Monitoring and Technology-Enabled Support.
It is predicted that technology will fundamentally change our service delivery system over the next one to five years. In this session, participants heard about cutting edge, technology-enabled supports that are in place now, learned the status of Ohio’s request to add remote monitoring to the Individual Options waiver, gathered a better understanding of the components of the remote-monitoring service as requested by Ohio, and found out how they may position their agencies to leverage this service for the betterment of those they serve.

SmartHome project manager Sterling Wind presented on Imagine!’s SmartHomes and SmartSupports at BRAIN of Boulder County’s “Brainstorm 2011,” sponsored by the Colorado Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Trust Fund.
This was a good
example of how our technologies can be applied to individuals outside of the DD world who have similar service needs.

Imagine! Director of Public Relations Fred Hobbs presented Getting Social: One Organization’s Success. Imagine! has created a comprehensive social media plan to help increase name recognition, build capacity, and gain additional funding. This presentation highlighted the rationale behind Imagine!’s strategy; outlined the benefits derived; and discussed the positive impact this approach has had on consumers’ lives. Elements of a successful social media plan for service providers were also noted.

Technologies demonstrated have the potential to help families, consumers, and providers to creatively promote consumer independence, maintain quality and efficiency of supports, and potentially meet expanding service demand in a cost effective manner.

The ANCOR Technology Leadership Summit: Shaping a Strategic Vision for the Implementation of Technology In Service Delivery
The day after the Coleman Institute for Cognitive Disabilities Ninth Annual Conference, the American Network of Community Options and Resources (ANCOR) convened its first ever Technology Leadership Summit to take advantage of the opportunity to explore technology as it relates to opportunities for enhancing supports and services delivery. Technology is a key to assisting individuals with disabilities to be more independent; addressing the direct support workforce crisis, and increasing provider efficiency. Greg provided the keynote address for the summit.
Participants also took a tour of the Bob and Judy Charles SmartHome as part of the summit.
